Meet the talents behind The Tiny Digital Factory, in a series of interviews.
Rémi, UX/UI Designer at The Tiny Digital Factory, is going to talk to us today about himself and his job. Rémi designs interfaces for mobile and PC games. This involves structuring the information and making it readable for the player as they navigate from one page to the next, or to accompany them during their gaming sessions.
Yes, I play video games. I’m more into platform games, action games and RPGs, mostly on consoles. Recently I really enjoyed Persona 5, on which I spent 140 hours (laughs).
I also liked CupHead, I like games that are edgy and challenging, but that doesn’t stop me enjoying Uncharted, Assassin’s Creed… adventure games with stories.
I like the fact that it’s a small company, so you get to know everyone quickly. Another good thing is that we work on management games, so there are lots of interfaces and the UI is very much in the spotlight!
The character that comes to mind is more of an anime character… but there’s a game so that counts, doesn’t it? It’s Griffith in Berserk. He’s the character I feel closest to, because he’s determined and needs others to achieve his goals. But he’s also seen as an evil character… (laughs).
For me, video games are a medium of expression. You can get messages across through games, while at the same time being a means of entertainment to relax, which can also be social and bring us closer together when we play with friends.
I arrived 7 months ago, but one moment I really enjoyed was our last Team Building day. First we built a wooden boat, and then we got to race on the water!
If there’s one thing I’d like to change in the video industry, it’s that on the UI side, I think it would be interesting to see the design and technical integration tools available to us improve, even though there’s already progress in this area!
This would enable us to be more productive and offer even richer browsing experiences. There are often technical issues or tight deadlines that can sometimes push designers and technical teams to choose the more traditional and tried-and-tested plan B, rather than the more original plan A.
